My special education students will get excited to practice phonics and math over and over again with the variety of activities, games, and hands on materials that are on my list. These high-need students were unable to get the supports they so desperately needed during the COVID-19 school closures and restrictions. Many missed out on daily, small group, targeted practice on phonics and math skills and as a result, have fallen further behind.
Keeping students motivated requires variety in activities that I can accomplish through the games, activities, and hands-on items on my list.
My students often lose focus and disengage when the activities we use for repeated practice are always the same; providing variety is the key! Using the items on my list in my small groups will help students want to keep learning through repetition, because it is fun!
