My students need more equipment, such as 6 flying disk, 6- 7ft jump ropes, 6- 8ft jump ropes, 12 Jr basketballs, 12 volleyballs, and 8 Jr. tennis rackets for PE class.
We have so many students and not enough equipment! Our school has several physical education classes with fifty plus students and there is not enough equipment to use.
Our school has an 81% free/reduced price lunch rate and we are located in the poverty area of a small town.
Students LOVE coming to our visual and performing arts school located in rural Arkansas. We are a very diverse campus with students from all nationalities. All students from gifted and talented to resources are included in the physical education classes. Because of funding, physical education is not a top priority when it come to spending the money.
My Project
If these resources are purchased we will have more and better involvement in physical education class. As it is now, students must share equipment, thus not exercising as much as they could had we had enough equipment for everyone to participate. We teach a unit on volleyball and basketball. Using these balls in groups is not as effective as everyone getting their own or even partner sharing. We have some tennis rackets for most of the class to use, but we always seem to be a few short, thus making students double up when practicing tennis skills. We do have lots of jump ropes, but with students from the age of five to twelve in PE classes we need more of each size. These students are poverty students and many don't have any kind of physical activity equipment at their homes. They love it when we switch units and get to use something new. It's a shame that at times, there is not enough to go around to everyone. They all need to exercise and to develop basis skills at this level.
For the physical education classes, the regular classrooms are combined thus, at times giving us fifty plus students in PE.
We do have some good equipment for PE, but with the larger classes it isn't enough for everyone and the funds are not there to purchase more. We have learned to monitor and adjust our lessons and activities, but it would be extremely helpful if we had more equipment. This would mean less standing and waiting for your turn to use the equipment and more exercise for the kid
