My Students

I have an amazing group of kindergartners this year! They are excited about learning and cannot wait to learn how to read. We have been diving into letters and sounds the last few weeks and are now ready to get guided reading up and running.

Teaching children to read is my most favorite time of the day!

It's a time when my students gather in small groups (4-6 readers) to talk about books. I select their books carefully in order to engage the children in reading a text at their instructional level. My students love responding to the text we've read and answering comprehension questions. I love seeing the amazing overall growth amongst my young learners.

My Project

My students will have an individual Flex-Space Student Storage Bin to store their guided reading materials in. These materials will include various books on their instructional and independent reading level, word work materials, a pencil, and a journal to respond to stories through writing. They will bring their book bin to my guided reading table during guided reading instruction and use their book bin at different times of the day to reread their books.

My students need to reread their guided reading books independently to build fluency and practice the skills they have learned in group time.

The end goal in guided reading, is for students to become confident, proficient readers who LOVE to read!
