Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school daily with a drive to learn. My students have specific needs or disabilities ranging from visual impairment, specific learning disabilities, autism, and emotional disturbance. Most students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, which is why I need essential materials. They are also at a disadvantage due to their disabilities.

Some of the students in my class are also English learners, and a few are relatively new to the country.

The community consists of mostly Spanish-speaking families and a small percentage of African-American families. My students work hard every day to learn and to grow.

I support my students in a special day mathematics classroom and they are expected to meet grade-level standards with the support and accommodations I provide. In order to have access to the curriculum, my students need various ways to learn: visually, auditorily, kinesthetically, and/or tactically. As an educator, I want to make sure my students have the same opportunities as their peers in regular general education classrooms.

My Project

My students are so thrilled to be back on campus where they can socialize with their peers and receive the proper support that they need to be successful. Our students deserve a space where they can learn and feel safe and unfortunately, we are not always provided the necessary personal protective equipment to help prevent exposure to COVID.

My students need cleaning resources like Lyosl, soap, and gloves, and group activities such as puzzles and Connect 4.

With these resources, students will be able to learn in a safe environment. They will also have access to fun games to engage with in groups when they complete their assignments.
