Being clean is an important part of confidence for pre-teens and teenagers. If a student's body and breath smell OK, their clothes are clean, and they're on top of their basic personal hygiene, it can help them to feel comfortable with other people. Good hygiene habits not only promote physical health but also contribute to mental well-being and positive social interactions.
Keeping clean is an important part of staying healthy.
For example, the simple act of washing hands before eating and after using the toilet is a proven and effective way of fighting off germs and avoiding sickness. Being clean is also an important part of confidence for pre-teens and teenagers.
By the time a child is about 10 or 11, it’s time to start using deodorant or an antiperspirant. Sometimes, kids may need to start even sooner, and that’s perfectly normal in most cases. Deodorant help with the odor coming from the armpits while antiperspirant help minimize sweat. It is a good idea to reapply if students are involved in physical activities. As a school counselor, students oftentimes visit my office in between classes, before school, and after school to get an extra bottle of deodorant. Sometimes they forget to put on deodorant, need more deodorant, use the wrong deodorant, or simply cannot afford to purchase deodorant. In addition to deoderant, other personal hygiene products are regularly needed such as feminine hygiene products and baby wipes. As a counselor I am often expected to be a one-stop-shop for my students.
