This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a group of fourth grade students who are highly enthusiastic and eager to learn something new every single day.
My students always try their best at everything and anything despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.
My students live in an impoverished area of South Los Angeles. All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school where one hundred percent of our students receive free meals. My students do not all have the same opportunities at home and thus need to be exposed to as many opportunities as possible at school.
My Project
My students will receive important life essentials such as deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lip balm after a life skills lesson. They will be able to bring these products home to use, or even keep some of them in their backpacks for daily use at school. Our classroom will discuss important life essentials and good hygiene habits, such as brushing your teeth, showering, and using deodorant and lotion on a daily basis. We will discuss how important it is to be clean and healthy because when you look good, you feel good. When my students receive these products, they will have the resources they need to begin healthy hygiene habits.
I believe that when you look good and feel clean, you have a more positive attitude about yourself and your learning.
This will impact each and every student in my classroom because they will all come to school with high self-esteem and ready to learn.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
