My Students

I am a special education teacher in a small school district just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Specifically, I provide reading and math support to students, as well as providing behavioral, social/emotional, and adaptive skill support.

My roster includes an extremely diverse group of students in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade.

Despite the challenges they often face in the school environment, my students are incredibly hard workers. They put so much effort into their learning and love to see the progress they have made!

My Project

As a special education teacher who supports students across four grade levels, I end up seeing eight different groups of students every day. Across the school day, students have to share tables, chairs/other flexible seating options, sensory materials, and academic materials. This means that A LOT of different germs have the potential of making their way through my classroom! While this isn't ideal in a "normal school year", it is even less ideal in a "COVID school year."

In an attempt to keep our classroom as safe and as clean as possible, I use sanitizing wipes or spray on furniture and shared materials between EVERY class.

While this can be expensive and time-consuming, it is well worth the money and effort to keep my students and me safe and healthy!
