Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves a low-income community in West Humboldt Park on the west side of Chicago. It is a neighborhood that has many bright spots, but also struggles heavily with drugs, gangs, crime, and violence. We believe all students deserve the best possible educational experience that equips them with the intellectual and personal skills they will need to pursue their dreams. We believe that students educated in a nurturing and challenging school environment and surrounded by staff and parents working together will excel. We believe that education is the gateway to success and we do all in our power to educate every child, regardless of circumstance.

It's an honor to enter my thirteenth year of teaching middle school students at this school. This year, I'm building relationships with approximately ninety seventh grade students. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated because we'll be able to provide a fresh and clean environment open for student-centered learning.
My Project
Our classroom is a space that is in need of supplies to create a fresh and clean environment for learning.
As an educator with OCD tendencies, I want to provide a clean, organized, calming, and safe space for my students.
Some students are well groomed, some struggle with hygiene, and all of them are middle school students.
We would appreciate a powerful, durable, and quiet pedestal fan to circulate the air in the classroom. There are times the air conditioning unit doesn't work in the months of May, June, and September. Even when the air conditioning is kind to us, we need an air flow to keep us calm and cool. We are also requesting white t-shirts and black sweaters in various sizes. The uniform code at our school is a white top, blue bottoms, and a solid colored sweater. Many times, students don't have a clean shirt/sweater to wear, which may result in poor attendance. In the classroom, hand sanitizer, Wet Ones wipes, and hand lotion are needed to sanitize and moisturize. A disinfectant spray would be used to wipe down the tables and chairs, and Air Wick air fresheners and Febreze would be used to freshen up the space. We can't wait to be so fresh and so clean clean!
