Have you ever found your escape in a book? Well most of my children do. Unfortunately, many of them haven't. In the 21st century world we live in, many of my students are too worried about what video game they will be playing at home in the afternoon rather than what book they'd like to read.
Welcome home!
It's a phrase we hear a lot in our North Carolina military community. Parent's and family coming and going like a well-oiled machine. My classroom is full of 21st century learners who are fully capable of learning at the highest of levels but unfortunately, due to small funds, they are not fully equipped to do so.
My class loves to read and drink up knowledge from anything. We are a small school that serves mostly military families and have a growing population of inner city children.
My Project
When my children enter my classroom I want it to be like home, but they are unable to get comfortable without a soft spot to land and a way to fall into a good book. Many of my students find school to be their second home and second family. Most military families seem to be that way. I want my classroom to be a place that is warm and inviting and a place that my students are excited to come to every morning and sad to leave each afternoon.
With the soft spots for reading and the Nooks, children in my classroom will have the ability to experience books on a whole new level. Not only will reading be tremendously fun on the Nook, students will be able to use them in writing centers to learn some computer skills. Classroom projects will be enhanced by giving the children a new way to research. With many children being kinesthetic learners today, my children will be able to learn reading skills in a hands-on way and also skills for the ever-growing, technology-driven, world we live in.
Making a donation to this project will make a difference in my classroom because my children will be given the chance to explore reading and learning in a whole new way.
Not only will the children who love to read be able to expand their love of reading through technology, I will also be able to help the children who think that they had rather play a video game than read a book see the fun in reading. Without reading, what can we really do? Please donate to my project and help students DO IT ALL!
