I love my small town school, and my students are my kids… My kids come from low socioeconomic homes with hard working families. My kids come to school ready to be challenged and ready to learn. My classroom has a wide range of learners. I have several gifted, a few English language learners, a handful of dyslexics, and a couple of special needs learners… and everything in between. We are ethnically diverse and appreciate each others uniqueness.
My little school is a Title 1 school, and we use every last penny on making and molding our students into independent and thoughtful thinkers.
We are one of the smallest schools in our district, and that means we have the smallest budget. We unfortunately are also the oldest school in the district, and with that comes old and outdated furniture, technology, and supplies.
I am very fortunate my classroom library is very well stocked and full of books for the kids to enjoy... but my library lacks one major thing... a rug. A rug will be a welcomed addition to my little classroom because it is all old and cold tile.
A nice comfy rug will make my library space more inviting and will encourage the kids to sit and read awhile.
With a warm and inviting rug in our library, we can maximize this new comfy space and use it as a gathering spot for book discussions, class meetings, and just plain reading.
