Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All of my 24 first graders come to school full of energy and excited about what the day may bring. They love reading, science, hands-on activities, and art. Our students are in a school district with high poverty and unique struggles. They come from households where their parents support their education as best as they can. Our charter school offers a K-8 Spanish dual immersion program. The Spanish speaking students are able to learn in their native language and slowly begin to master English, while our native English speakers are learning how to speak Spanish fluently.
They are always ready to learn something new and show what they know!
Their energy is contagious and their curiosity is endless. It is amazing to see how far a 1st grader can change and progress in one school year.
My Project
A spacious soft rug will be comfortable to sit on and make storytime even more enjoyable. Students need enough space to sit comfortably and interact with their partners as they learn new concepts and practice communicating effectively.
When students are relaxed and feel at home in their classroom, they learn, grow, and love coming to school.
First graders spend a good deal of time sitting on the rug as they listen, share ideas and learn reading strategies. The time children spend sitting on the rug must be pleasant to be effective. A new rug with more space will contribute to 24 1st graders learning to build relationships with their classmates and improve their social skills.
