This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third graders are incredibly inquisitive and excited about coming to school. It saddens me that my students have to come into a classroom and sit on a filthy, stained rug. I only want the best for them. My amazing students deserve to have a new, clean rug to learn on.
Unfortunately, the majority of my students live in a neighborhood that is dominated by gang activity and racial unrest.
At age 8, many of my students have already been subject to the negative influences of gangs and violence. We are a Title I school with 85% of our students at a low-income level.
My Project
With a new classroom rug, my students will have a richer environment to learn. It is wonderful for my third-grade students to have both their desks and a rug to sit at throughout the day. Students can spread out on a rug during independent reading, work on group projects, play math games, and have rug spots to sit at during whole group instruction. Students love sitting on the rug for a read aloud!
Our classroom is strongly in need of a rug so that it can be the best learning environment possible.
Unfortunately, our classroom rug is at least ten years old. It's incredibly dirty, stained, and dare I say, smelly. My third graders deserve a clean, new rug to be the center our classroom. We would love a bright new rug that has a cheerful spot for each child to have their own space to learn.
My students would also love to have chair pockets to keep their belongings organized in our crowded classroom!
