Curling up with a good book is nearly impossible when the floor you're curling up on is hard and uncomfortable. I am a second grade teacher in a high-need community. Over 80% of our students are at or below the poverty line. It is my hope to create for them a space where they can be comfortable as they escape into books.

Our school is trying to do a big push to increase the reading ability of our students. The first step in doing that is to create a love of reading. Many of our children come from single parent homes where there is not enough time devoted to reading. In my room alone one-third of the students are English Language Learners. They are at a unique disadvantage as most of their family members do not speak, nor read English.

I have begun to create a substantial library for the children to access a variety of books. My next step is to create areas in our room that would lend themselves to comfortable and quiet reading. We need four bean bags for seating for reading as well as a Lots of Dots Oval for community circle. My hope is that the students will learn how relaxing and rewarding reading a good book can be, that they will continue this in their own homes.

With your donation my students will have the opportunity to curl up with a good book and learn to enjoy reading. You will make it possible for me to create life long readers.
