This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As we approach the winter solstice in New York City, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. Some of my students leave for school before the sun rises, and if they stay after school for sports, tutoring, or clubs, they will get home after the sun has set. Though we have fewer hours of sunlight, winter does not have to be a bleak time of year.

I would like to create some winter fun for my students with fake snowballs, hot cocoa mixes, as well as instant spiced apple cider.

Even if we real snow doesn't fall from the sky, we can still use these fake snowball to create an experiential learning experience for my students in the yard. When throwing a snowball, the physics involved is primarily based on "projectile motion," meaning the snowball travels in a curved path due to the constant downward acceleration of gravity, while its horizontal velocity remains constant (ignoring air resistance), resulting in a parabolic trajectory when visualized. My students can experiment to find the optimal throwing angle for maximum distance.
