My Students

This year, my students are from a mix of grades! During physical education, it is their time to shine in a different way in school -- through physical activity. It's a way for students to see their skills outside of the classroom.

Many of my students are from low-income households and live in small, cramped and crowded spaces.

There is not much green space or large safe spaces for them to run around and play in. Physical Education class gives them the chance to grow in a way they often could not outside of school. In order to get my youngest set of students up and moving, I need materials that cater to their size, growth, and development.

My Project

I've had students' sneakers fall apart during my classes. Others come in wearing sneakers with holes, or their sibling's shoes that don't fit. My students can't participate in class if they are not prepared. It's no fault of their own when they don't have socks on because there are none in the house. I also have students coming to me telling me they are hungry and they didn't get anything to eat. Being able to provide them with small healthy snacks to keep them going throughout the day, and show someone cares is so vital to their lives.

It's not their fault that their sneakers don't fit and they're the ones that are hurting.

I want my students to feel confident in themselves and their abilities when they are in my class. They want to participate and succeed. Sometimes something simple, such as a pair of shoes, can make their world expand, and their learning possible. Thank you for considering helping my students take a huge step in the right direction.
