Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We want to make sure that our school is equitable, and that starts in our classrooms and communities. Some of my students eat only once a day and that only happens when they come to school. This was heightened by the pandemic where a lot of my students' families were negatively impacted.
I am trying to make sure that my students do not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
The high schoolers have a very late lunch - almost 1 p.m. even though school starts at 7:50 a.m. That is a long time without food! I want to supplement their school lunch with snacks to keep their motivation up and keep their hunger at bay until they get to their lunch period.
These snacks will help our students' energy stay high so that they can be curious and creative throughout their day without worrying about where their next meal will come from. Snacks can keep students from getting hungry and losing their motivation. These snacks will be a comfort to our students who are having difficulties as they will be able to focus on school instead of their empty stomachs.
