This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a family of learners. I teach a classroom full of smiles, determination, silliness, and unwavering love. Students in my classroom, now remote, face intellectual, physical, and emotional challenges every day, but they never give up. When they can't verbally communicate, they find a way. They find a way to show how much they care.

Our students also live in a high-poverty area which makes our school even more unique because they may not always have everything they have and need at home.

We have a high diversity of learners who often need some sort of tools to be more successful. Despite challenges at home and in the community, my students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and thoughtful. In my classroom, we work with our students to work hard daily to improve their communication, behavior, and academic skills.

My Project

I have learned that many of my students do not like to eat at school in the morning and sometimes lunch time. Therefore, they tend to be hungry during the day. Having assorted cookies and waters will help my students have variety in their snack bin. Using plastic bags and containers help my students store their left over snacks for another time.

Nutrition and hydration are the foundation of a healthy mind.

When kids don't get to eat at home they lose focus at school, testing scores drop and there is an increased level of behavior related issues. We are a Title I school which means many of our students are from low income families and often, they cant afford snacks for their child during the day. These snacks and treats will help give them that energy and power.

Some of our students are often hungry and don't quite get enough to eat for a variety of reasons. Regardless of the reason, we need your support to help these students out.

Without sufficient food, these students may fall behind academically and find it difficult to engage in class. Helping keep these kids fed will help them do their best work in the classrooms. By having classroom snacks, we can reduce some of the negative stigma associated with hunger in schools. We can create a grab-and-go station for those students who really need. We need your support for these students!
