My Project

I'm a certified teacher in the behavioral intervention class for grades 9-12. I help with academic support, primarily Math, at a title 1 school. The majority of my students come from high trauma and high poverty backgrounds with little support at home. Many students have attendance issues, are failing most of their classes, and lack basic food/clothing/backpacks/school supplies/stable housing.

The snacks & supplies will help students with their behavior & academics.

The snacks will help kids feed their hunger, so that they can focus on their schoolwork and be better behaved students. The supplies will help students focus on classwork. Both the snacks and supplies will help students feel loved, supported, and welcomed in school so that they can be better students.

The goals for this project are to get students to come to school, do classwork, and pass classes. Many of the students need to feel a sense of belonging and community without judgement with how they lack the basic supplies for coming to school with.

My intervention students are the sweetest and nicest kids when you get beyond the hard exterior. Not only are they hungry for food, but they are hungry for positive attention. I want to help students with their behavior and academics, to show them that school can be a warm and inviting place. The snacks and supplies will help them feel loved.
