The pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, protractors, and staplers allowed my class to be prepared for any academic endeavor. One of the projects we completed that I would like to bring to attention is the rollercoaster project. We wanted to learn more about physics and gravity, what better way to learn than building our own rollercoaster. We used construction paper, glue, tape, and marbles to construct our own coaster. We raced marbles, compared height of our coasters, and timed how long it took for our marbles to reach the bottom without falling off the course. This project inspired our classroom and made learning fun!\r\n \r\nWhen we received the materials from Donors Choose our class knew that something fun was in the works. They were excited to see materials that weren't the average classroom supplies (paper, pencils, folders, etc.). In an alternative learning class, it's critical to have supplies and assignments that will engage the students.\r\n \r\nCurrently, we are embarking on a mythology unit where we will be using graphic novels (ordered from Donors Choose) to dive into the literary devices and themes of mythology. It goes without saying that we will be using the colored pencils and highlighters to enhance the student experience through this next unit!\r\n \r\nThank you to Donors Choose and partners for sponsoring our class. The majority of the students at our school are from a low-income family, 75% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch so to their family's income. We know that food insecurity is a major issue amongst children and youth, especially as grocery prices continue to rise while income do not. Often, our students do not have consistent food at home and attend school without having breakfast. \r\nWhen it comes to mental health, it's hard to work on reducing symptoms, process emotions and/or trauma, or regulate those emotions when basic needs are not met. Your donations are helping us to address this, meeting our students' needs whenever they come into our offices to put in the work to become healthier, happier people.\r\nYour support through these donations aid us to stretch our limited budgets a little farther.
