Snacks & Success: Meeting My Students' Physical and Social/Emotional Needs

My Project

Many of my students come to school every day without their basic needs met -- adequate food, emotional support, and/or a sense of safety. My students are hard-working, curious, and enthusiastic learners, but not having access to basic wellness creates roadblocks to achieve their goals. My goal is to create a space for my students where they feel supported, encouraged, and safe.

Learning can be impossible without feeling safe and supported both physically and mentally.

The snacks that we are requesting will provide students with energy and the ability to focus during a long and rigorous school day. We will also be able to address students' mental health by providing fidgets and sensory stickers, as well as a reversible octopus for students to express themselves when they are unable to do so verbally. Students will be able to participate in mindfulness activities such as coloring with colored pencils or working on a puzzle. We will create a space in the classroom where students can go to regroup and tend to their mental health. This space will be decorated with encouraging mental health posters and plants. Help me provide my students with what they need both physically and mentally so that they can fulfill their academic and social potential.
