This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My name is Emma Griffith and I am a School Social Worker at a Title I School in Colorado Springs.

I work with some amazing and capable students!

A lot of our students come from low income housing and depend on the school for two of their meals.

COVID-19 had a lot of impacts on our families and parents who worked in the service industries, especially. Due to some of our students' vulnerable situations, a lot of them spend the day hungry. I have noticed that a snack is usually what they need to get them through the day. Food helps increase their focus, decrease their irritability and helps them feel loved and cared for at school.

Due to the learning loss that took place after the global pandemic, it is now more important than ever for kids to be focused and ready to learn when at school.
