This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are hardworking creative individuals who may not always see their talents and gifts. I like to encourage them to create art, learn from their mistakes, and grow their confidence and joy for learning. That is sadly lost as they get older and the hardships of the world become too real. Many of them prefer to not go to the loud cafeteria and choose to stay in the art room because the vibes are peaceful and calm.
Art class needs to be that safe space.
I always make sure my students know that they are seen. While we have lunch together in the collaborative space, I want to continue to provide snacks, and sensory slime-making stations where they can make art without thinking about grading or assessments. We put some relaxing music on, and some sit in the beanbag chairs I also requested from DonorsChoose. My room is slowly becoming my dream classroom.
