Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work in a special education resource room. I serve about 50 students. The majority of students that we serve are children from two language homes in a dual language building. Our kiddos need funding for snacks and materials. We can go through 50-75 snacks each day. Some kids will come through and ask for snacks to eat if they know they don't have extra at home. This student-centered care closet will allow our kids to come and receive snacks, basic supplies for the classroom.
Please help create and stock this closet so students can focus on their learning and not worry about basic hunger needs with food and taking equity and race out of the equation for haves and have nots.
In our classroom, we have a Care Closet full of snacks for students when they need a little something to fill their tummies when they are hungry; feel worried or just need a break in my calming corner to relax.
The kids know they can come discretely to us for needs they have and we will support them in all ways that we can.
We will continue to build our supply for the kids throughout the year.
