My students need after school snacks to take home such as granola bars, popcorn, Goldfish crackers, and cereal bars.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a Title I school. The majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch and come from homes where English is their second language. A large percentage of the population are "at-risk" and have focusing issues. Many of them come to school with little life experiences, such as going to the show or watching a play at the theater. Even though they have daily obstacles to overcome, they come to school eager to learn. Once they enter my classroom, I want them to be assured that they are in a safe, learning environment and that anything is possible!
My Project
"I think all kids need snacks," said Emeril Lagasse, and I couldn't agree more! This is especially important for the low-income families I work with.
When this project is funded, I will be able to send my students home with daily after-school snacks.
A large percentage of my students go to an after school program because their parents work late. Some of them are there until almost six o'clock every evening. At times, my students bring an extra after school snack from home, but it's usually something unhealthy like Hot Cheetos.
Even though they are given a small snack at the after school programs, my students are still hungry. Giving them an extra "to-go" snack will help to fill their stomachs until they are picked up and will help them to concentrate when they're doing their homework. Additionally, it will take away the financial burden for some of my families that struggle to make ends meet because they will no longer have to provide an extra daily snack. These snacks, such as cereal bars and crackers, will also be healthier than the snacks they currently bring from home. Full bellies will lead to happy students!
