My Students

Our classroom is a place of community, shared expression, collaboration, mindful practice, and new learning experiences. A lot happens in this classroom beyond reading, writing, and math. My students come from all parts of the community as my particular program is not available in all of our district schools. My program is considered a transitional developmental delay classroom to address the students' social-emotional needs. With this, my students come from all parts of our city and bring with them the experience of their families, homes, and neighborhoods. My students often present with temporary homelessness, childhood trauma, and foster care.

One hundred percent of our students participate in free or reduced-price lunch.

Sometimes, these things enhance our student learning and make it a richer experience for everyone. Other times this brings chaos and conflict. Whatever the students come with, we work together to be a classroom community of learners moving forward to achieve academic and social success.

My Project

The snacks and drinks such as goldfish crackers and fruit snacks you would help provide by contributing to this project will be used in many different ways to benefit my students. The bottled water, juice boxes will be distributed on those hot days because we have sunny days in Arizona all year long that the kids need to stay hydrated. The healthy snacks will be used as a whole-class snack, reward, or individual snack to nourish a student that may have missed breakfast.

So often, I find students being distracted and not getting the full benefit of learning because they are hot, thirsty, or hungry.

Additionally, some of the snacks I've selected will be used in during snack recess. My students often show up to school with limited supplies that having a snack for later in the day is often not something they have. If my students are not well fed they are often not able to focus and not able to stay on task.

By supporting this project and providing my class with snacks and water, you will be helping my students stave off hunger and stay hydrated during our school day.

This will help them stay focused on learning. Any help you can provided would be greatly appreciated.
