Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
Many of my students come to school hungry and tired on a daily basis.
This is in part due to the fact that most of these kids only get one meal per day. This meal is usually received at school. When they go back home, food is scarce. As a result, our students come to school almost daily with very low energy. Despite all of these challenges, I want to be able to provide something that will make their days much more bright.

With these Frito Lays Cheese Mix Variety Pack, Frito Lay Classic Mix, Nabisco Savory Cracker Variety snack pack and Keebler cookie and Cheese it variety pack, my students will be able to experience real life customer experiences.
There will be a center in the classroom called the Snacks Market. Students will be able to go into the market and buy snacks with their previously earned fake money. Students earn their money depending on how they are performing in the classroom. Students with great behavior and great academic performance can earn up to 2 dollars per day. They can use that money to buy a snack. Snacks will be all labeled with different prices. Students will be responsible to count their money and figure out the amount of change they will be getting back. With your help, I can teach my students the importance of budgeting and of course how to count money.
