My Project

Our students come to school hungry every day and a lot of them cannot wait until their lunch or snack time during the day. Just like the adults, hunger makes kids less attentive, easily triggered, and less energy to do anything.

Hunger is one of the basic needs of human, and if it's not met, then learning in the classroom won't happen.

This is about providing basic needs for students and help them regulate their big emotions. Students would come in to my counseling office feeling upset or agitated. I usually asked them what they need such as, "Are you hungry?" "Are you thirsty?" and "Are you tired?". Most students would respond "yes" when I ask them if they are hungry, and so I would try to find snacks in school to help them regulate their body into equilibrium. Once they have food in their system, they are able to speak about their feelings, what has been bothering them, and then we can move forward with strength based problem solving.

Help our students meet the basic needs by getting them a healthy snack that supports their well-being holistically.
