This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Pre-K classroom is located in the inner city with families striving for a better life. Our students body is 95% African American, 2% Haitian American, 2% Hispanic, and 1% Caucasian, with 97% of students receiving free lunch.
My students and everyone else in the world has been turned upside down due to the COVID19 pandemic.
We had thought about what it would be like to do distance learning. Little did we know that schools were going to be closed for the rest of the school year. Our last regular school day was Friday, March 13. They are logging into their computers and staying in touch. I am very proud of them!
My Project
Who would’ve thought that these students would be spending so much time learning online? Certainly not me! And yet they are doing it and doing it well.
I would like to provide home learning boxes for them so that they can read the Rising Readers Leveled Books Nursery, and Science Content-Area Leveled Readers.
The pencils will be used to practice handwriting. They will have fun while learning with these manipulatives - pencils, books, sand and construction paper - and enjoy some snacks with their families.
I would like to drop off care packages for learning at each of my students' homes so that they feel loved and appreciated while they are being so socially distant.
They will be able to share the items with other members of their family so that they can learn together!
