Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are a melting pot in New York City so it is likely that my students will meet people of different cultures as they grow into adults. However, they can still live in fairly insular worlds at this point in their lives, surrounded mainly by close family and friends. The curiosity is there though. From their interest in KPop to anime, they are interested in exploring other cultures. I would like to share some of my own Japanese culture with my students.
Many students participate in after school sports and need a boost of energy before they practice and play.
Instead of giving them their usual familiar snacks, I'd like to offer them something different options such as Japanese wagashi. Each exposure to something different broadens my students' horizons and helps them see the beauty in diversity.
