This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Every day, our classroom has a designated snack time. I have many students who rely on that afternoon snack to keep their energy up and help them focus on their school work. Some families are able to provide a snack for their own child, but a large population cannot afford this extra expense.
Studies show that children who have access to healthy food, perform significantly higher on academic tasks than children who do not.
My students need these snacks to help them stay energized and focused throughout the school day. Having access to popcorn, a fruit snack, or a cereal bar will simultaneously keep them full and allow them not to feel ostracized from their classmates who are able to afford such luxuries.
