This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A lot of times throughout the day, many children (who may not eat breakfast) would definitely benefit from having a treat available when needed. It’s always important to make sure a student isn’t going hungry in the time frame while being in school. The well-being of students and focus level throughout the day may get low if the student is hungry. Sometimes money may be a factor and they can’t buy a snack at the store before school so providing something in school is very helpful.

The snacks (Takis, chips, and breakfast bars) will help boost my students' energy and provide just what they need to refocus.

My students are a diverse group full of curiosity. They all want to be successful, but there are times when they can be distracted by hunger and will avoid participating in afterschool activities because they will have to go too long without food. Sometimes they come to school without eating breakfast and due to late buses or lack of transportation they do not make it in time for our school breakfast.

Supporting this project means you are helping give snacks to help students refocus and maintain academic success. There is so much talk about accelerating learning but no learning at all can happen if you are hungry. If you are hungry, you cannot concentrate on learning. When students arrive late and miss breakfast or when the daily lunch isn't their cup of tea, I will be able to provide them with something to munch on so they can remain engaged in school and accelerate their learning from there.
