My Project
Students learn best when they have basic needs met, such as satisfying hunger pangs during the instructional day.
Students can choose from the variety of snacks from this project if they need a quick bite in the hallway to take care of their hunger before they come back into the classroom to refocus on learning, now revitalized from the food.
Days are especially long on our block days, when students might start as early as 8:40 AM and go all the way until 12:09 PM before they have a lunch break. This is an extremely long time to go without a break and without a quick snack. With this class snack supply, students can get a snack if they need during our 5 minute breaks, so that they have some fuel before their lunch break.
I have done similar Donors Choose projects in previous years, with the help of generous donors, and students have immensely appreciated the sustenance. I have had students come throughout the day to ask for food, knowing that my room would have the resources needed to help tie them over until lunch or after school. Something as small as a snack can really make a positive difference in a student's day, and I hope to continue this each year for a new group of students!
