Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a STEM-centered academy and are looking to go into Engineering, Physics, and Biology fields as a career. They are hard-working and enthusiastic about learning how the sciences and engineering fields affect their lives. They also are interested in joining these fields after high school and college. They participate in multiple extra-curricular activities, but they still make time to enroll in advanced placement and college-level classes.

My students come from diverse backgrounds including low-income households.

Our school is 62% economically disadvantaged, multi-situational families, and at-risk. Our school has 80% minorities and is located in an economically disadvantaged part of San Antonio with very few STEM-related businesses to serve as an inspiration to go into those fields.

My Project

As I am sure happens at a lot of high schools, many of our students have to stay late at school for many reasons. At my school, many of our students have parents that work late and therefore have to stay late at school waiting to be picked up.

We also have a lot of students that stay late for tutoring and extra curricular activities.

For whatever reason, they end up getting home late and are hungry as they stay at school since they lunch from 11am - 12 pm. Please help me make sure they are not hungry after school.
