Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Children with autism often face challenges in social interactions, which can impede their ability to form friendships and integrate into social settings. Snack time offers a natural and low-pressure opportunity for children to engage with peers, practice communication skills, and develop social understanding. However, the lack of appealing and familiar snacks can be a barrier to fully engaging in these activities.

Having a variety of snacks that are popular and enjoyable for my students will help encourage social participation during snack time activities.

The snacks will be used in structured sessions where children can practice sharing, taking turns, and conversing with peers in a guided environment. Additionally, staff will facilitate providing gentle prompts and support to help children navigate social interactions thus providing a meaningful difference in the social lives of children with autism.
