My Students
As a special education teacher teaching students with Autism, I see students daily who are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, my students are eager to learn both academics and life skills in order to create for themselves a better life.
My students are eager learners that enjoy learning about the world around them and being involved in everyday activities.
My students have all been identified with high functioning Autism and are learning to navigate in the world around them. They are very intelligent students, with several also being identified as gifted, who enjoy the things every 4th and 5th grader enjoys.
My Project
Each school day our class has a snack time. Many of my students are unable to provide their own snacks and I make sure that each student has a snack daily. My students are often hungry in the time between breakfast and lunch and by providing a snack we are eliminating that issue.
It is imperative that students basic needs are met before expecting them to be able to learn.
By purchasing items such as fruit snacks, individual packs of teddy grahams, and various snack items, I am able to ensure that every child has a snack every day. In order to keep our snacks organized and allow students to make choices, I also need a snack cart and baskets.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
