My students are sweet and enthusiastic 1st and 2nd graders. I work with these students on remedial skills in reading and in math. A lot of my students come from impoverished homes and lack basic nutrition. I love seeing them smile and hug me each morning on the way to my classroom.
I want to instill not just necessary knowledge and skills but give them full tummies so that they can be the best that they can be.
My 1st grade students come to me for reading intervention classes. They are a diverse group of learners with many English Language learners. We work hard on phonics and vocabulary and I know that they will do much better with a nice morning snack in case they have not eaten much at home the night before.
My 2nd grade students come to me for math intervention classes. We are working hard to fill the gaps in their learning so that they can be successful. The majority of my students in this class are girls. I know they struggle with hunger at home and it breaks my heart. I want to help them to be confident in school and in math.
My Project
I am an intervention teacher that works with students with the greatest need for reading and math remediation. My students frequently lack basic nutrition at home and come to school with empty bellies. This makes learning even more of a struggle.
These snacks will fill the little bellies of my young students so that they can have the focus they need for mastering remedial skills.
Your donation will go toward helping my students be successful in reading and in math.
I often try to keep food in my desk for my students who will quietly mention their hunger to me. I know that we have to satisfy basic needs before learning can occur. Please help me so that I can provide snacks to all of my students who struggle with hunger.
