Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many days our kids come to school hungry, we provide breakfast but there are days they come in late and didn't eat. Lunch is too far away to wait and to be honest, we don't always know when they ate last.

Our school is at 90-95% poverty level.

So it isn't surprising that kids come to school hungry. They all get free breakfast and free lunch. They are anxious to go play and many times don't think about their tummy when recess is in sight.

Students then have the entire afternoon to go without anything to eat. This is where the snacks will come in handy. Mid-afternoon they are starving and I let them have a snack if we have managed to collect enough.

This may be the only thing they get to eat before retuning to school in the morning.

The treats encourage them to go the extra mile. They will work harder for the right answers to get the reward! They will bring in that paper that needed to be signed for a piece of candy.

Snacks and treats are essential for the classroom!
