This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Despite the struggles that my students face day-to-day, they are amazing in every way! My first and second graders live in a low socioeconomic area and attend a Title I school at which 100% of the students receive free or reduced-priced breakfast and lunch. My students are faced with living in neighborhoods full of gun violence and gangs; yet, they are expected to sit still, be quiet, open up a book, and learn something new. They are just not focused on the task at hand. It's time to shift the traditional 20th-century learning towards the 21st century interdisciplinary learning to get them more engaged.
My Project
My students students have a late lunch and we need snacks and juice for our snack pantry! My class needs snacks to help my students to focus on learning and not their late lunch time.
Student's energy and performance tend to go down as they start to get hungry.
Students are also more focused and productive when they are not hungry.
My students have four, 50 minute rotations during the academic day, all before lunchtime. They will be given snacks daily after their 2nd rotation to keep them focused during rotation 3 and 4 as they await their lunch time.
