This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The school day presents a myriad of challenges for my students. They arrive in the morning, often brimming with enthusiasm and a genuine desire to learn. However, the cumulative effect of a packed schedule, coupled with the natural ebb and flow of energy levels, can take its toll. By the time they reach my science class, a noticeable shift occurs. The once-bright eyes begin to dim, and the eagerness to engage is often overshadowed by the pangs of hunger and a subtle weariness. This is not a reflection of their intellectual capacity or motivation, but rather a simple, biological reality: it is difficult to concentrate when basic needs are unmet. Therefore, the provision of simple snacks, such as chips, and readily available water, transcends the mere act of offering sustenance.
It becomes a critical intervention, a means of bridging the gap between potential and performance.
These items are not mere indulgences; they are essential tools that enable my students to recalibrate their focus and replenish their dwindling energy reserves. When students are no longer preoccupied with the discomfort of hunger or thirst, they can fully immerse themselves in the scientific exploration at hand.
