My Project
My students, bright and enthusiastic, arrive at school each morning with a genuine desire to learn. However, the demands of a full school day, coupled with the natural ebb and flow of energy levels, often result in a noticeable decline in focus by the time they reach my science class. Hunger, in particular, becomes a significant barrier to their ability to fully engage with the material. To address this, I've found that providing simple snacks like cookies, along with readily available water, is absolutely essential. These small provisions act as a crucial bridge, replenishing their energy reserves and sharpening their concentration, allowing them to effectively tackle the challenges presented by our science lessons.
My overarching goal is to create an equitable and supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
Ensuring that my students have access to snacks and water is a fundamental aspect of this goal. By addressing their basic physiological needs, we remove a significant obstacle to their learning. The simple act of providing cookies and water yields a multitude of benefits. Firstly, it directly promotes better concentration. When students are not preoccupied with hunger, they are able to dedicate their full attention to the lesson at hand. Secondly, it supports equity in the classroom. Not all students have the same access to nutritious meals or snacks outside of school. By providing these resources, we level the playing field, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate fully, regardless of their individual circumstances. Finally, by fostering a learning environment where basic needs are met, we empower my students to succeed. When they are energized and focused, they are better equipped to grasp complex concepts, engage in critical thinking, and achieve their full potential in science.
