This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 19 wonderful third graders in a low income area of Omaha. My students are so deserving and I want them to have all the opportunities to learn in our classroom. I want to provide them with resources they can use to help lead their learning especially during small group rotations. My students come to school every day, sometimes not wanting to learn and yet, they still put their best foot forward and work hard. They are wonderful kids and they deserve the best!
My Project
I teach in a low income school and many of my students receive their basic needs at school. They know they are safe, warm and will be fed while at school. My students get both breakfast and lunch but many of them are hungry by the time the day ends. In my 3rd grade classroom, I do my best to provide my students with some of their most basic needs, which includes a snack. The afternoons can get long and tiring for many of my students and they tend to get hungry by the end of the day. Students are expected to do a lot of work and even with brain breaks and a recess it can be difficult to keep students focused on the academics.
Having some HEALTHY snacks to boost student's energy and increase BRAIN power would definitely help on our long afternoons.
These healthy snacks such as chex mix, fruit snacks, crackers, pretzels, and water are just what my students need to get them through those last few hours of the day!
