Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project would benefit my students in so many ways. As a New York City Teacher, we are only given $235 dollars to spend on our students for the entire school year ("Teacher's Choice" funds). I have already spent all of this on supplies like fidgets, staplers, highlighters, tissues and writing utensils. I simply do not have enough money to also provide my students with food, which is incredibly important since most of my students come to school hungry every day.
Your donation would serve a vital purpose: giving my amazing students the encouragement, hope and dignity in the form of snacks, like crackers, cookies, chips and candy, they need to succeed in school.
It is quite simply impossible for one to focus and give one's best effort in anything in life if one is hungry or food-insecure. I cannot expect my students to give their best effort if they are starving or depleted of energy. Asking your own teacher for food has to be a humbling experience that many of us cannot even relate to. If teenagers are asking their teachers for food, that just shows how desperate they are for help; students don't ask for snacks unless they absolutely feel the need to.
I believe that all human beings deserve the basic dignity of being fed every day, especially children who have no way of getting food unless their families or trusted adults in their lives provide it for them. It is heart-breaking to hear the personal struggles and hurdles that many of students go through on a daily basis. If you can help me provide them with the food they need to thrive throughout their entire school day, I would be eternally grateful to you!
