This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My current classroom is an inclusion classroom. My room includes atypical students and students with special needs. Our school is in a low income community and many of our families are affected by ongoing union strikes.
The loss of income due the ongoing strikes makes daily living a struggle.
Many families prioritize the most important bills such as rent over treats
Many of our families live with food insecurity and purchasing snacks and treats are not a priority. Having a few items the students like available when they come to school would be a great help to their families. The materials for this project will allow us to have a small pantry students can select a snack or treat without worrying.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
