This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Snacks provides a lot of benefits especially for young growing teenagers. Some benefits of snacks for them would be sustaining teenagers' energy and increasing their productivity. My school is located in a neighborhood where a large percentage of residents have low incomes. Families in the area are facing economic hardship and limited access to resources, which can significantly impact their children's learning motivation and productivity. They feel hungry all the time and are wandering around near the student store every passing period. In addition, my students feel exhausted quickly, which impacts their learning attitudes and achieving goals.
Providing timely snacks for my students takes an incredible role for cultivating a good reading habit.
I want my students to keep their eyes on the book they select to read, for at least 30 minutes per day. The 30 minutes might seem like a long time to them who are not used to reading, but if they know that snacks are waiting for them to read for 30 minutes, it is a totally different story. Snacks imagined in their mind can push them to go 30 minutes without any big difficulty. Also, eating snacks can maintain their energy level to focus at work. At the moment, some students may raise up their hand to ask if they can go another round for another snack chance! What a good effect!: it is like killing two birds with one stone- a strong reading habit and good nutrition!
I do believe that through this snack rewards system, my students will be building up a strong habit of a 30-minutes to one-hour daily reading. Snacks must be functioning as profitable invests for my young teens! Also, the 100% of profits will be going back to my young readers!
