This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hola`! Ni-hao! Ciao! I teach ELL (English Language Learner) students from 12 different countries of varying English levels. We believe everyone can achieve the American dream. We want our students to feel confident that they can succeed and fulfill their hopes and dreams no matter where they come from and what kinds of challenges this new way of living is bringing to us.
Our school is a Title I school with many living at the poverty level.
The students love coming to school because it's a safe learning environment with a caring staff and support system. Most of the students in our class are Hispanic newcomers, with a few Asian, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European. With so many different cultures and languages in the classroom, we feel a sense of unity when the students get a chance to engage with technology. Even though there are so many differences going on, students of different cultures find the ability to communicate especially when technology is at the forefront.
We are fortunate enough to have a 6th grade STEM cohort this school year to raise levels of creativity, and scientific and mathematical thinking. These are the job skills that are in high demand.
My Project
The prizes and rewards ordered will be as incentives to work hard and participate. Students can choose from anything ordered as their prize for the day.
Everyone will be eligible to get rewarded everyday for completing work to working with a partner on a difficult problem to coming up to the board and share their thinking.
The extension cord is a necessary supply that all the kids will appreciate having nearby as they often run out of battery life during the school day. I am ordering organic and healthier snacks so they can learn about healthy options as well.
