This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach special education students in kindergarten-3rd grade. My school is located in the heart of the inner city and has 87% minority enrollment. The students are almost entirely recipients of free and reduced-price lunch. Many of my students struggle with homelessness, food insecurity, and have parents with addictions.
My students work very hard, even though many of them have very little.
I want to give them the best opportunities for success and advocate for them in any way I can.
My Project
This project is for snacks and drinks for students in the special education classroom, after school homework program, and for students in need to take home to their siblings/family. So many of my students benefit from the classroom snack cart, and I want to continue to refill it and provide this for my students for years to come.
Something as simple as a small snack or drink helps students feel noticed and supported at school.
Students know they can come to me at any time if they are hungry or need something to take home with them. Thank you for considering donating to this project!
