This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At MS50, we foster a community of students who are hardworking, eager to learn and who take on leadership roles within and beyond the classroom. It has been the joy of my teaching career to support our students as they learn the principles and skills that scientists must embody to see success in their fields. However, my students are still growing and in need of plenty of fuel to feed their Scientific curiosity.
MS50 is a title 1 magnet school in the heart of Williamsburg.
Many of our students come from lower-income backgrounds and some of our families lack access to basic living essentials such as food. As a teacher, it can be difficult to offer my students what they need when food is a privilege.
By providing my students with snacks, I can provide my students with the energy they need to work hard in Science class and beyond. Additionally, I can use snacks as an incentive to support my students who are still working on developing their intrinsic motivation. Food is a love language, and by providing me with these snacks you allow me another way to show my students how much we care for them.
