This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a small community in Northeast Alabama. 68% of students at my school receive free and reduced lunch. Even though many of our students live at or below the poverty line, students and teachers at my school work hard to bridge the achievement gap. Students receive an education full of rigor and receive quality instruction from a vast array of trained professional educators. Our high school is committed to helping our students become successful global citizens in the 21st century.
My Project
Because of my students socio-economic status at home, it is important for them to have snacks as we travel to the nation's capital city in April. These snacks will help offset some of the cost incurred by their parents as we travel to DC. Most of my students will be hungry in between meals, and a snack provided to the students will aid in providing sustenance until the next meal.
Visiting the nation's capital is an opportunity that has never been provided to students at my school.
Through this trip, I am hoping my students are able to see the US Government in action. This trip will make a difference in my students' lives by allowing them to visit the one place in America that belongs to the people.
