My Project
I teach preschool students with autism and other disabilities at a Title I school. Although they are all provided with free breakfast and lunch unfortunately most of them will not eat the meals provided due to sensory issues with textures etc. Their families do not always have the funds to send in something else for them. I have noticed that on the times our school serves Nutri-Grain bars they all seem to like them. I have purchased some from a local store to have on hand for times they don't like what the school provides. It's a long day for school for them with most also having to take the bus to and from school so I don't want them to go all day without something to eat. I am also looking to get fruit snacks for when they are hungry after naptime.
Something that many do not realize is that some students have difficulty even drinking from a traditional cup.
The Honey Bear cup is something my students have used that helps them with drinking because they can not drink from the traditional milk and juice cartons provided by the school. I am requesting funds to help get two 4 packs of the Honey Bear Straw Cups. These cups come with 8 flexible straws and cleaning tools (2 straw brushes and 1 bottle brush). The cups are considered a premium feeding and drinking therapy tool. It allows the students to be able to drink by squeezing the cup, These cups also teach and help children transition to straw drinking, tongue training, lip rounding, tongue retraction, and other oral motor skills.
