This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hello! We're halfway through the school year and kindergarten is in full swing! My students are working hard learning how to blend cvc words, segmenting to write words independently, and learning how to use social emotional skills to solve internal and external problems. After our busy and rigorous instructional day, students get to transition into their specials classes which means snack time is just around the corner for them.
My students look forward to enjoying a snack after a jammed packed day of learning, but due to familial financial strains and reliance on family donations for snacks, my class is not able to consistently eat an afternoon snack.
For some students, these snacks fill their tummies just enough until they're picked up from after school at 6pm and for some, its a chance to socialize with their peers and share a nice moment together as we end the day. All snacks and food materials are intended solely for students and will remain in our classroom closet.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
